ABOUT The Artist

Katharina Rähmi

KATHARINA RÄHMI (*1957) is a Swiss artist. She has delved into Asian and Buddhist art and philosophy for over 30 years, which flow into her contemporary work. In 2019 Katharina realized the solo exhibition «Aura of Rice Grains» at the IWE Museum in Kunming and 2020 in Chengdu, China. In 2020 /2021 she was invited as an artist in residence to Lugu Lake, Yunnan and joined the Xishuangbanna Project. In 2020, Katharina Rähmi won the ERNTE Art Prize of Mobiliar Schaffhausen. When Katharina is not traveling, she lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland.

Katharina Rähmi’s work is based on experiencing nature and being familiar with western and non-western art. She usually works in series to explore a theme in depth. With installations, painting, ceramics, silk embroidery and video, she fans out the cosmos of something as simple as a grain of rice. She draws on the intense experience of nature and her ability to engage intensely. Since 2013, her work has been dedicated to rice.
